Syria condemns arrest of TV correspondent in Golan

The Syrian Journalists Union condemned on Thursday the arrest of two journalists from the Syrian Television Station in the occupied Golan Heights, the official SANA news agency reported.

The correspondent Attila Farahat and his aide Yousuf Shams were arrested after the Israeli occupation troops stormed their HOMEs in Bekaatha and Majdal Chams, said the report without giving the exact time of the arrest.

The Israelis seized their equipment, including their cellular phones and computers "without any justification or reason for this brutal act," said a statement by the union.

"This represents an assault on public freedom of expression," the statement said, calling on international community to condemn such an ugly crime.

It also called on the Arab Journalists Union and the Arab media establishments to reveal this "barbaric assault" against the Arab media in the occupied territories, express solidarity with the journalists and call for their immediate release.
