The Syrian Golan Heights Prisoner, Sittan Al-Wali, was released Tuesday July 8th, 2008, from the Israeli jails.

Al-Wali, who has been imprisoned for 24 years inside the Israeli jails, has severe chronic health problems. He was sentenced by the Israeli occupation Authorities to serve a 27-year imprisonment term.

Al-Wali is a Syrian resistance fighter from Majdal Shams village of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

Israel holds tens of Syrian resistance fighters from the occupied Golan Heights in its jails under the pretext of carrying acts of resistance against its military occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights since June 5, 1967.

In statements to the Syrian TV following his release, Al-Wali reiterated his pledge to continue the steadfastness heroism of the Syrians under the yoke of occupation till the liberation of the Golan Heights from the Israeli occupation, voicing pride over the wise historic leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad, the President of the Just and Comprehensive Peace.

Syria has repeatedly called for the release of Al-Wali lodging a complaint to the UN offering to treat him abroad at the expense of the Syrian. In June, 2008, a Syrian FM Spokesman sated that "Syria renews appeal to all international figures and agencies to immediately shoulder legal and humanitarian responsibilities in forcing Israeli occupation authorities to secure suitable medical care to Seitan Nimr al-Wali,"

Al-Wali was once a cell companion of the Syrian Hero, Haiel Hussein AbouZeid, Who died inside the Israeli prisons after spending 20 years in the Israeli prisons.

The release of Al-Wali coincides with the ongoing on-and-off indirect peace talks between Syria and Israel with the mediation of Turkey.
