President al-Assad Meets al-Abrash and Members of Board of Assembly Bureau
Damascus, (SANA)_ President Bashar al-Assad received Sunday
Speaker of the People’s Assembly Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash and members of the
Assembly board.
Al-Abrash and members of the Assembly board conveyed to President al-Assad the
assembly's approval on the nomination of President Bashar al-Assad for a new
term of office and determining May 27th as the date for conducting popular
referendum regarding that.
They stressed that the referendum would be a national occasion to show the
Syrian people's adherence to the President and his stances that express the
street's pulse.
The President highly appreciated the People's Assembly confidence that would be
the motive for further work and shouldering the national responsibilities.

DAMASCUS, (SANA)-National Progressive Front (NPF) on Sunday underlined that Syrian people look forward to May 27th to practice a constitutional right and a national duty through the referendum for the second constitutional term of President Bashar al-Assad.
"Referendum is not only an approval for a constitutional principle; it is also a consolidation of the principles of democracy, political and party multiplicity," Central Leadership of NPF said in a statement on presidential referendum due on May 27th.
"Political developments in the region and the world during the last seven years have proved firmness of Syrian political experience and credibility of performance," the Front added, referring to President al-Assad's dealing with regional and international events in a wise manner during his first presidential term.
"President al-Assad is a leader who continues the process of modernization and development in the country which bears a civilized message and possesses a national and human position," it went on.
NPF pointed out to the developments occurred in Syria during President al-Assad's first term, including an increase in national product, rise in the people's standards of living and providence of the best services in all life sectors.
It called people to express their support to the leadership of President al-Assad by going to ballot boxes on May 27th, saying "referendum for a second term means a referendum for continuing the way of resistance, development, security and stability."
For its part, the Syrian Communist Party underlined Monday that the referendum for the second constitutional term of President Bashar al-Assad is considered as a big political event in Syria's life and on the Arab level also, because it reflects correctness of the method adopted by Syria in rejecting submission to schemes despite of all pressures and challenges.
" Continuation of the Syrian firm and steadfast policy has boosted the Arab opposition front for the Zionist plots and consolidated Syria's position as an Arab popular attraction center in facing the dictations policy and tutelage attempts, " the SCP said in a statement on the occasion of the referendum.
The statement pointed out to the developments occurred in Syria during President al-Assad's first term, including an increase in national product, rise in the people's standards of living and providence of the best services in all life sectors.
The party, alongside all loyal national forces and the social, economic and culture boards in the country, looks forward to May 27th to vote with /Yes/ for a new constitutional term of President Bashar al-Assad and for continuation of the development and reform program.
