Syrian Paper Says Melhis Report is Contrary to Truth
Damascus, October 21,(SANA)- A Syrian newspaper strongly criticized on Friday the UN report on the investigation on the killing of a former Lebanese Premier saying it is incompatible with truth. The paper noted the report of UN investigator Deltelv Mehlis lacks proves and witnesses as it is based on view points of anti-Syria Lebanese personalities. Al-Thawra daily quoted journalist Ismail Jaradat as saying “ the report included what it pointed out at a Syrian-Lebanese involvement in Hariri killing without presenting any proves or testimonies over this conclusion that is contrary to truth” The paper added the report was based on stories and sayings of some press and political anti-Syria Lebanese personalities who did not stop pointing the finger of accusation to Syria. “ The report has built its conclusion on these stories the matter that points out there is a pre intention to politicize the investigation and direct it in a certain way to serve policy of pressures on Syria,” the paper said. The paper noted that despite of Syria’s full cooperation with the investigation committee, the report claimed that it was not enough or essential and this is contradictory to what Mehlis said when he was in Syria where he asserted his comfort for the Syrian good cooperation with the investigation. “ It is a way to express ready made positions and accusations against Syria,” the paper said. The paper underlined Syria is innocent of the crime of Rafik Hariri killing because the style of the assassination is incompatible with Syria’s policy to deal with enemies and then how it is when it comes to friends and supporter of the good ties between Syria and Lebanon. “ Syria has been the first to demand and since the first hours of the crime a professional and delicate investigation far away from the politicizing tent and ready made accusations with the aim of knowing the truth which is in Syria and Lebanon interest as well in the region security and stability,” al-Thawra said. It noted that Syria will study and analyze the report when she officially receives it to make the response.
