Mass Destruction Weapons!
“Nuclear Disarmament tops the conditions for the realization of world peace"
Late President Hafez Assad declared on Sept. 24th, 1987, in a message to a
Nuclear Disarmament conference, asserting that this very issue is linked closely
to the cause of peace. " Humanity does need life prerequisites and progress; not
means of destruction and elimination. Man does need food, medicine, housing,
educational institutions, hospitals, means of transport and communication, means
of agricultural development, does need every thing in protection of human
civilization and its persistence” added the Late President blasting “Those who
insist to produce nuclear weapons and threaten others by these nukes” as “the
enemies of peace,” and as “ the enemies of continued life on the globe”.
On March, 8, 1990, the Late President declared “ The objective circumstances for
elimination of weapons is the realization of peace”. Interviewed by the US
“Washington Post” and “ News Week” on July 28th, 1991, the late president
reiterated the region need as to rid the region from Mass Destruction Weapons,
on top of which the nuclear ones wondering whether Israel stores were enough to
contain the stockpiles of US weapons and ammunitions! ´” Israel is alone in the
region which manufactures different types of weapons and of sophisticated
missiles. It is Israel alone among the region countries which possesses nuclear
weapons” “ Israel possesses the weapons existing in the United States, hence the
same of these weapons exist in Israel” “Israel has chemical, germ, and nuclear
weapons” stated the late president to Time Magazine on November, 12, 1992
calling for the elimination of Israeli MDW.
For his part, President Bashar Assad, in a message to Youth Conference in
Algiers on August, 2001 stated “ Israel which rejected and still rejects to sign
the Nonproliferation Treaty always threatens to use what the United States
provides of weapons, and what it manufactures of MDW’s”. To Doha Conference on
November 13, 2000, President Bashar stated “ the Israelis stockpile all Mass
Destruction weapons, on top of which the nukes. Our Governments ask the
concerned countries and bodies to clean these weapons, the reply comes through
the bombarding of a pharmaceutical factory in the Sudan”. Actually these very
statements by Syria’s Leaders have been part and parcel of the Syrian principled
and committed strategy of opting to peace, security, coexistence and stability
in the region. Unfortunately, these stances went unheeded by many , including
Israel, which has been capitalizing on every opportunity to increase its
qualitative edge militarily on all the region countries. Racing against the tide
of time, Israel since the 40’s of past Century opted for Samson’s Option. At the
time, when most of Arabs and surroundings concluded peace agreements with
Israel, and when the rest declared in Beirut’s Peace Initiative full
preparedness for just peace, Israel has no justification whatsoever to adamantly
persist in its Samson’s Option.
BBC2 recently aired a documentary about Israeli weapons of Mass Destruction
presented by Olenka Frenkiel. The documentary commented: "Israel is outside
chemical and biological weapons treaties “ The whole revelations in the said
program, according to Internet sources, came about against the background of
developments in the "Vanunu case". Mordechai Vanunu, known as Israel's nuclear
whistleblower, was an engineer at Israel's nuclear bomb factory at Dimona, who
leaked the secret story with photographs about Israel's nuclear capability,
which were published in the Sunday Times in October, 1986. Avigdor Feldman, the
lawyer of vanunu, told the programme: "The prosecutor said that if Vanunu were
released, the Americans would probably leave Iraq and go after Israel and
Israel's weapons" . When the program approached an engineer who was dying of
cancer, he refused o be interviewed. Unaware that he was being filmed, he said:
"I wanted to talk but I have been silenced. They came from intelligence and told
me not to talk. They said I would be like Vanunu”. The Bulletin of the Atomic
Scientists estimates that Israel has the world's fifth largest stockpile of
nuclear warheads. In February 2000, Knesset member Issam Mahoul said Israel had
'200 to 300' nuclear weapons; in August of that year, the Federation of American
Scientists said that Israel could have produced 'at least 100 nuclear weapons,
but probably not significantly more than 200'; the Stockholm International Peace
Research Institute estimates. 200. Other sources, including Jane's Intelligence
Review, estimate between 400 and 500 thermonuclear and nuclear weapons.
According to scores of verified sources, the October 1992 crash an of El Al
cargo plane in Amsterdam that caused at least 47 deaths and caused hundreds of
immediate and subsequent mysterious illnesses led to the disclosure in 1998 that
flight LY1862 was carrying chemicals including 50 gallons of dimethyl
methylphosphonatep. The sources added that in 1955, Prime Minister Ben Gurion
ordered the weaponisation and stockpiling of chemical weapons in case of a war
with Egypt. Former Mossad agent Victor Ostrovsky claims that lethal tests have
been performed on Arab prisoners. Chemical weapons in the 1982 war on Lebanon,
including hydrogen cyanide, nerve gas and phosphorus shells; Discussing delivery
systems, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists states that Israel's F-16 squadrons
based at Nevatim and Ramon are the most likely carriers of nuclear warheads and
that a small group of pilots has been trained for nuclear strikes. Israel's
Jericho I and Jericho II missiles are nuclear-capable.
According to Islamic Association for Palestine, 1 February, 2003, an Israeli
professor and military historian hinted that Israel could avenge the Holocaust
by annihilating millions of Germans and other Europeans. Professor Martin Van
Creveld said "We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can
launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European
capitals are targets of our air force.". "Our armed forces are not the
thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the
capability to take the world down with us". Should the World be taken down or
upwards in the interest of every human every where!
The world at large should by now capitalize on the Syrian recent draft
resolution as to make the Middle East free from Mass Destruction weapons. The US
envoy to the united Nations, Mr. Negroponte’s, whose country, the USA, has the
most advanced and largest stockpiles of Nuclear and every Mass Destruction
Weapons, recent statements to this effect are indeed encouraging, and so are
those by other top US Officials, if the realization of just peace is to free the
region from such lethal weapons. Hopefully, our region is soon to live in peace
away from every means of destruction and killing. It is indeed a dream by the
majority to have Late President, Hafez Assad’s call in 1987, at the opening of
the 10th Mediterranean Games in Lattakia that “ We want the Mediterranean to be
that of peace, and friendship, where ships of interaction among people would
sail not planes of destruction and killing where Seagulls would fly over it”
translated into reality on the ground. One can’t but to wonder whether such a
human mission is impossible. It is indeed very easy to do so, once the other
side is to be serious and honest in search for a permanent just and
comprehensive in the region of Prophets: Moses, Christ and Mohammed.
